Organic Ruby Red French Dressing is rich and tangy sweet just like the deep red French dressings we grew up with at good old mom & pop restaurants and steakhouses. My recipe is made with as many organic ingredients as I can find. I first started making it with good Moroccan EVOO, but found the dressing becomes solid when refrigerated for more than an hour. I knew that good olive oil does, but the thought never crossed my mind that my dressing would need to warm up a bit before I could shake it to re-homogenize all the ingredients. ๐

If you’re making a batch of this Organic French Dressing for immediate use and not planning to refrigerate for long, definitely use a good organic extra virgin olive oil. My preference is Moroccan for its super healthy high polyphenol content. If you want to make it to have on hand, a good walnut oil or avocado oil doesn’t turn to solid in the fridge and tastes fantastic, too!
All the different iterations of salad in the pictures are made from these different oils. I love them all! We eat A LOT of salads! ๐ฅ

Organic Ruby Red French Dressing
Ingredients
- 1 cup organic extra virgin olive oil or walnut oil or avocado oil
- 2/3 cup organic ketchup
- 1/2 cup organic cane sugar or monkfruit/allulose blend
- 1/2 cup organic white vinegar
- 2 tbsp organic onion, finely chopped (or 1 tbsp onion powder)
- 1 tbsp organic lemon juice
- 1 tsp organic dry mustard (or 2 tsp organic dijon mustard)
- 1 tsp organic sweet paprika
- 1 tsp Hain iodized sea salt
- 1 tsp organic ground black pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Place oil, ketchup, sugar, vinegar, onion, lemon juice, mustard, paprika, salt, and black pepper in a large wide mouth mason jar with a tight-fitting lid; cover and shake until well blended. Or use an immersion blender.
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill. Shake again before serving.
- Use within a couple of weeks. If using olive oil and it becomes solid in the fridge, let sit on the counter for 10-15 minutes to warm up enough to shake.
About the Croutons
I have to tell you about eating THESE croutons with THIS dressing! It takes me back to my little hometown to a fabulous historic restaurant that is now closed. You can read more about it in the link below for the croutons. I had to recreate the taste of The Bluebird’s French dressing and while it probably wasn’t homemade in the 21st century, it was still pretty dang good. Ken’s has a Country French Dressing that’s super tasty, but not organic.
Now, this particular bowl of salad with those Copycat Bluebird Deep Fried Croutons were made with Nature’s Own Whole Wheat buns. They turned out fantastic! We prefer the Dave’s Killer Organic Bread/Buns, however they’re a lot of bun for Jimmie’s lunch sandwiches. I used a couple of stale ones to whip up a new batch. Nature’s Own whole wheat is the best UN-enriched bun we can find at our nearest grocery store. Buy UN-enriched whenever you can find it! Stripping the wheat of all its nutrients then putting it back in with synthetic vitamins and minerals makes no sense. Organic, unbleached all-purpose flour has not been stripped and is so much better for you! That’s what I use with the addition of vital wheat gluten to make homemade bread. Or organic bread flour. My local stores don’t carry it so I order to be shipped from Walmart or Amazon.
What Else is in the Bowl?
The eggs are Vital Farms Pasture-Raised. We prefer the organic, but can’t always find them. Pasture-raised and free-range are not the same. The thought of the hens being confined to a small space hurts my heart. Consumers are holding these small farms accountable and demand honesty and transparency. Thankfully Vital Farms is toeing the line after being called on the carpet. ๐๐ฅ
Add to the croutons and eggs, some of our favorite salad fixins are organic lettuce, baby spinach, organic radishes, shred your own block cheddar cheese, organic sunflower seeds, organic tomatoes, organic black olives, all-natural uncured bacon fried and crumbled (or Hormel all-natural if I’m being lazy though we try very hard to avoid BHA & BHT), Greenfield ABF Smoked Uncured Sliced Pork Ham (humanely raised).

Coming soon!: more organic dressings such as my Dill Ranch, Three Cheese Ranch, Red Wine Vinaigrette, Honey Balsamic Vinaigrette, Thousand Island, and Honey Dijon. And condiments such as Taco Sauce, Ketchup, Filipino Banana Ketchup, organic copycat fast food restaurants sauces. Horsey Sauce, McDonald’s Tartar Sauce, Chick-fil-a Sauce, etc.
In conclusion, I believe you’ll love the taste of my Organic Ruby Red French Dressing! The beauty of this recipe is you can tweak it to make it perfect for your palate!
Happy eating! ๐
