Organic Oils for Optimal Health – The following are my favorite medicinal and cooking oils with links to the organic brands independently tested and verified organic and/or all-natural. I read 1-star reviews first then 5-stars before making a decision on any brand. I look for the best price for the quantity. Best for Cooking, Baking, Salads, Sauces
Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Atlas Organic Moroccan Extra Virgin Olive Oil (highest in polyphenols makes this EVOO amazing for health) for salads, dressings, and shot glassfuls. The taste is fantastic with grassy, fruity notes on the front, and a peppery bite in the back of the throat. Terra Delyssa Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil for sautรฉing and adding to recipes. It tastes good, but has a little bitter note on the front.
Butter: Horizon Organic or Cabot Creamery sticks if I can’t find organic. Troyer Amish-Style Roll Butter for special occasions because it tastes so good. Our local Hitchcock’s grocery store carries it. There are other organic choices at my local Winn-Dixie, but they are more expensive.
Lard: South Chicago Packing Traditonal LARD Shortening pasture-raised, with rosemary extract, or Stellar – 100% Pure Grass Fed Lard
Beef Tallow: EPIC Beef Tallow, Grass-Fed – great for frying anything.
Coconut Oil: Great Value Organic Coconut Oil (virgin, cold-pressed) – amazing health benefits; perfect for recipes and skincare.
Avocado Oil: We use Chosen Foods 100% Pure Avocado Oil. And the Chosen Foods 100% Pure Avocado Spray Oil. Healthy fat perfect for sautรฉing, dressings, and sauces.
Organic Canola Oil: Star Organic Canola Oil – I use this oil for making mayonnaise, and frying certain foods that don’t need the more expensive oils. Homemade Breaded Tenderloins are better when fried in flavorless oil.
Best for Medicinal Purposes & Boosting Health
Black Seed Oil: Amazing Herbs Premium Black Seed Oil – I started using black seeds (not oil) sprinkled on food as a diuretic then discovered from my Aunt J it was recommended to her for its anti-inflammatory properties. The brand she uses is the best one for taste, price, and efficacy.
Cumin oil: Cuminum cyminum L. – anti-viral and antibacterial properties – I don’t use cumin oil, but I cook with cumin a lot. The links to my favorite brands are on the Herbs & Spices page.
From AI: There are two different kinds of cumin commonly used in cooking and traditional medicine:
- Common Cumin (Cuminum cyminum): This is the most widely used type of cumin, known for its distinctive aroma and wspriarm, earthy flavor. It is used in various cuisines, including Indian, Mexican, and Mediterranean dishes. Common cumin seeds are typically brownish-green and have a ridged appearance.
- Black Cumin (Bunium bulbocastanum): Also known as Kala Jeera, this type of cumin is smaller and thinner than common cumin, with a dark black color. It has a unique flavor that combines sweet, lemony, and slightly bitter notes. Black cumin is often used in Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine to flavor oil, onions, and other spices in dishes like biryani and pilau.
Both types of cumin have medicinal properties attributed to them, with common cumin being used as a digestive aid and black cumin known for its potential health benefits in treating digestive issues and boosting the immune system.
MCT Oil – Nature’s Way Organic or Carrington Farms Organic Medium Chain Triglyceride Oil: made from coconuts, both are virgin, cold-pressed. From Healthline – MCT oil contains short-chain fatty acids that aid in lowering calorie intake, body composition and weight, is a good energy source, brain food, might help burn body fat, could help manage epilepsy, Alzheimerโs disease, and autism, fights yeast and bacterial growth, could help manage blood sugar. According to Dr. Gundry, taking 2-3 tablespoons a day causes your liver to go into ketosis without having to eat low-carb.
Frankincense oil: Majestic Pure Frankincense Essential Oil – according to Healthline, it may improve arthritis, gut health, asthma, oral health, and has anti-cancer properties. I use it for arthritis in my hands. When mixed with myrrh oil and sweet almond oil, it works fast to relieve pain. However, frankincense has a piny scent that may be strong and off-putting.
Myrrh oil: Majestic Pure Myrrh Essential Oil – according to Healthline, it is anti-bacterial, supports oral health, supports skin health and heals sores, combats pain and swelling, is a powerful anti-oxidant, kills some parasites, and other potential benefits. I use it mixed with Sweet Almond Oil to stop pain in joints and muscles. Mixing Frankincense with the Myrrh in the carrier oil is even more powerful.
Clove Oil: Majestic Pure Clove Essential Oil – anti-parasitic (when used in conjunction with Green Black Walnut Hull and Wormwood). Anti-bacterial, pain-relief (toothache), digestive upset, cough and asthma according to Healthline. If taking certain medications, have certain conditions, or allergies, click through to Healthline for more information.
Oregano Oil: I use Carlyle Organic Oil of Oregano – may be beneficial in weight loss, as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cancer-fighting, improved gut health, yeast infections, antibacterial according to Healthline. I’m using for weight loss along with several other oils and supplements.
Sweet Almond Oil: Handcraft Blends Sweet Almond Oil 100% Pure and Natural – this is a great carrier oil for diluting essential oils that are too strong to be used on the skin. I use it for myrrh and frankincense which works wonders for painful joints and muscles.
Castor Oil: NOW Foods Solutions, Castor Oil, 100% Pure
Rosemary Oil: Premium Nature Organic Rosemary Essential Oil – I use this for hair growth. Years of medications and use of shampoos with sulfides damaged my hair follicles. Rubbing rosemary essential oil blended with sweet almond oil into the scalp helps to rejuvenate hair follicles.
