Crazy Batter Pizza Crust

Crazy Batter Pizza Crust – Have you ever planned to make something for supper only to realize you’re missing a key ingredient? Homemade pizza was on the menu and I thought I bought our favorite Jiffy pizza crust mix. I was wrong. And I had no yeast to make a traditional dough. As luck would have it, I’d seen a facebook meme of something called “Crazy Crust Pizza.” I have no idea who the author of that meme was… …This whole post was started a couple of years ago and I never finished it. Sometimes life gets in the way of our best laid plans. 🙃

I put on my super sleuthing hat and found the person who originally posted it. I want to give credit where credit is due so you can take the recipe from here or her site at Sage Trifle. She got the recipe from the back of a bag of Pillsbury flour with a copyright date of 1969! She posted the picture. I just love stuff like that!

I gave this crazy batter pizza crust a try and it turned out great! And then I intentionally made it again. And again. 😋 It’s so much easier and less messy than liberally coating my hands with oil and stretching out springy pizza dough that wants to keep shrinking back into a ball. I’m not saying I quit making traditional pizza dough, but it’s nice to have a great tasting change every now and then. I think you’ll like it, too.

  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1/8 or 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 2/3 cup milk

Necessary Pizza Toppings

  • 1 jar or can pizza sauce
  • 2 or more cups mozzarella cheese, shredded or sliced

Optional Pizza Toppings

  • 1 lb. Sausage, browned & drained
  • 1 lb. ground beef, browned & drained
  • 1 lb. diced ham
  • Pepperoni, sliced or diced
  • Black olives, sliced or diced
  • Onions, sliced or diced
  • Green bell pepper, sliced or diced
  • Parmesan cheese, grated or shredded
  • Any other toppings you like

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425°F.

Grease and flour a pizza pan or 10.5″ x15.5″ jellyroll pan.

Mix flour, salt, pepper, oregano, eggs, and milk in a medium bowl.

Pour batter in pan and tilt around until spread to all the edges.

If using, sprinkle the cooked meat and chopped veggies over the batter.

Bake for 20 minutes for a light, tender crust, or 25-30 minutes to a deep golden brown for a crispy crust.

Remove the pizza crust from oven and top with pizza sauce and cheese.

Bake for about 7-10 more minutes, or until cheese is nicely melted and lightly browned if you like it that way.

Slice and serve.
