The first time I ever had Monster cookies was at a Carrom tournament at my dad and step-mom’s many long years ago. Aunt Lu brought these amazing cookies; my brother Jeremy and I thought we were going to die they were so good. 🤗 Between the cookies and the crazy great time spent with my Harris side of the family, it was one of the best days of my life. The stuff from which awesome memories are made. I can still hear my Great Aunt Marg cutting up with my other brother, Brian. Love them and miss them all!

You’ll understand why they’re called “monster” when you see the ingredient list! This is going to take a humongous bowl or pot to mix it up. And an ice cream scooper to plop the giant balls onto baking sheets.

Aunt Lou’s Amazing Monster Cookies

  • 12 eggs
  • 2 lbs light brown sugar
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  • 1 tbsp light Karo syrup
  • 8 tsp baking soda
  • 1 lb sweat cream salted butter (4 sticks, room temp)
  • 3 lbs creamy peanut butter
  • 18 cups quick cook oats (not instant – you’ll need 1-1/2 or so large containers)
  • 1 lb semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 lb M&Ms

Pre-heat oven to 350°F. Beat with electric hand mixer all ingredients in the order given, thoroughly incorporating each after adding.

When you get down to the last of the oats you’ll have to mix the rest in by hand. Don’t burn up your hand mixer!

Drop by ice cream scoopfuls onto baking sheets about 3 inches apart. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until lightly browned. Don’t over-bake!

Aunt Lu would bake up 1/3, refrigerate 1/3, and freeze 1/3. I bake 1/2 and freeze 1/2 – it’s nice to have some all ready to go, rather than preparing smaller batches every time we want some. Definitely cut the recipe down if the size of this one is freaking you out!

P.S. I was once asked to make a quadruple batch for a wedding. That was a lot of cookies!

Happy eating! 😊

    • Hi Tanooki

They’re incredibly addictive! You can’t eat just one or two… You might be able to eat just three, but you’re going to really want another one. 😂 It takes extreme self-control to walk away from these amazing Monster Cookies! 😁
